Faith Martin, a junior at St. Paul, is one of the most decorated swimmers the state has ever had at the high school level and she still has one more year of eligibility.

However, she’s not the only swimmer her parents, Jim and Meegan Martin, have in their family.

There’s Faith’s older brother Jimmy, a senior at St. Paul, and a captain for the Bristol co-op team; and little sister Lilly, an eighth-grader at St. Joseph School.

We know a lot about Faith, a five-time State Open champ and recently the winner of the CIAC’s “Betty Philcox Award,” presented to the state’s top female high school swimmer. This is the second year Faith has been awarded this prestigious honor.

Now, where the heck did her brother, Jimmy, come from? He’s already qualified for two events at the state level in his first year of scholastic swimming.

The answer is, both he and his sisters have been swimming for the Central Aquatic team out of Wallingford.

As a St. Paul student, Jimmy was unable to swim his first two years because the school had no such program. Last year it un-officially went co-op because at meets their timings and placements had no affect on the team as a whole.

This year, St. Paul is now official as Jimmy swims for coach Gary Harrigan on the Bristol co-op team — and swimming he certainly is!

Lilly, who will attend St. Paul next year as a freshman, is looking forward to swimming relays with her older sister, Faith. Lilly holds her own in the pool and will be a welcome addition to her mom’s St. Paul girls team. In fact, all three of the Martin ladies are looking forward to this.

I give Meegan and Jim a “well done” as parents. They have been active with their children and have always supported their endeavors, whether it be swimming, soccer, basketball or whatever.

Right now, Faith and Jimmy have settled in to swim year-round while Lilly also plays soccer, basketball and softball for St. Joe’s.

Nice family. I’m proud to know them!
