SCHOOL MISSION
St. Paul Catholic High School, a coeducational secondary school of the Archdiocese of Hartford, serves students in the greater Bristol area in Grades 9 through 12 by providing a strong college preparatory curriculum in an academic and social environment based on Christian values. St. Paul establishes high expectations for all students in the Catholic tradition of discipline, responsibility, and achievement. The environment of St. Paul motivates students to be respectful of themselves, of others, and of the learning process. Students of diverse religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds develop leadership skills through knowledge, commitment, and service to others.
STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
We believe that every child is a unique creation of God and must be treated with the greatest respect. Children learn best in an atmosphere of mutual respect where they feel safe, noticed, responsible, and cared for. Therefore, the faculty and staff must serve as role models to students by living as committed Christians striving to teach as Jesus did. The lessons learned about Christian values in social interactions, both in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities, are critical to the full development of the child.
We believe that children strive to meet the expectations of those responsible for them. Therefore, faculty and parents work together to challenge students with high expectations. We believe that adolescents must learn to take responsibility for their own lives. Self-discipline is the most effective form of discipline, so students are guided to respect themselves, others, and the learning process. Students prefer the structure, pattern, and standards that accompany adulthood. As a result, the St. Paul community requires conformity, neatness, punctuality, and politeness.
We believe that students are best served by a curriculum that emphasizes traditional core content, while providing opportunities for enrichment. At St. Paul, even the most traditional of subjects are better communicated to students through the use of modern methodologies and high tech instructional aids. Students learn to appreciate learning through the efforts of enthusiastic teachers who love their subjects and who challenge their students to think and work independently. We believe that adolescents need experiences and skills in intellectual, creative, physical, and service activities so that they develop a lifelong commitment to personal growth and sharing with others.
